Private foundations and donor advised funds are critical components of the U.S. nonprofit sector that provide substantial funding to nonprofits and the communities they serve.

Collectively, they manage over $1 trillion in assets and distribute over $100 billion in grants each year. Given their abundant resources, institutional philanthropy has the capacity to significantly address critical social needs. However, the sector’s overall scope, scale, and impact has been difficult to quantify and analyze. Our lab is addressing this challenge.

We’re building a comprehensive platform that aggregates and synthesizes data from millions of tax filings, grants, and other sources related to charitable giving and community outcomes. Our goal is to empower researchers, practitioners, and policymakers with actionable insights into philanthropic giving and charitable activity in the U.S.
